Aranthera Anne Black, a hybrid registered in1957

This plant is very easy to grow.  It is in the island cooler interior that I have seen the best and brightest colored flowers of this hybrid.

Papilionanthe hookeriana [Rchb. f.]Schlechter 1915, the pollen parent of the hybrid Papilionanthe 'Miss Joachim'

This orchid is one of the parents of the ubiquitous hybrid, Papilionanthe Miss Joachim.  In the original cross, it has been determined that the pod parent was Papilionanthe teres var. andersonii.  This plant should be easy to cultivate in Puerto Rico except maybe for the dry southern coast.  However it is very rare in cultivation in the island.

Papilionanthe pedunculata (Kerr) Garay 1974, a cool growing orchid

Cool growing orchids die when exposed to the relentless hot weather of coastal Puerto Rico.  But on the mountainous interior of the Island, the temperatures are low enough to allow these orchids to grow and even to thrive.  I drove more than an hour into the interior of the island to photograph this orchid.

Dendrobium devonianum Paxton 1840

My plant has bloomed again.  Only with three flowers, but considering this is a plant from a temperate climate, I am happy it blooms at all.  It is challenging to grow and loses vigor and size if it doesn't get consistent care.
